Say It Ain't So Dravid!

So sad, my favorite Indian cricketer has stepped down from the captaincy. I thought it was a natural fit for Rahul Dravid, but even I have to admit that it has been rough going for him.

With all due respect to Ricky Ponting, I think captaining India has to be the most difficult job in cricket.

Hopefully this will allow him to focus on his batting, which did take a hit during his captaincy.

Of course, Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar can't be recalled to the captaincy [that will be a step back for the board] so it will be interesting to see who will take over.

In the end, though, no matter how you slice and dice Dravid's career, he should be remembered as the most underrated, and perhaps most important, cricketers India has ever had.

Here are a couple of interesting reads from Cricinfo:

Who after Dravid?

A legacy that lost its way
