The Sweet Bruising

I ran across this in a Vanity Fair blog post just before the De La Hoya - Pacquiao fight (which was sad, BTW):

Boxing’s nickname, “the sweet science of bruising,” was coined in Boxiana, a monthly journal about the London prizering begun in 1812.

So that's where "the sweet science" comes from. Not sweet for DLH though, so sad, so very sad!
