Vijay Means Victory
Wouldn't you know it, Vijay Singh won the Bridgestone Invitational by a whisker this weekend.
He missed three very makeable putts over the closing holes (what a surprise, Vijay's putter let him down) but managed to make two very good putts on the last hole to hold off Lee Westwood.
It was a nice little post-Tiger leaderboard (Phil Mickelson, Retief Goosen, Stuart Appleby, etc.) and it was also nice to see Vijay getting a victory at his age.
Not too many people remember this, but Vijay was a legitimate World No. 1 during this Tiger Woods era (quite an achievement) and held off Tiger to win the Deutsche Bank Open when the ranking was at stake four years ago (Tiger entered the tournament late so you know how important the ranking was to him). Vijay went toe-to-toe with Woods and hit one great shot after another while being in the same pairing as the Greatest Human Being, Ever!, and for a brief moment showed the world what it was like to stand up to the force of nature known as TW.
His reign atop the golfing world was brief, yes, but this sweet little victory was a nice reminder of what Vijay Singh used to be.
