I Thought They Would Last
There is a great article in The Hollywood Reporter (pointed out in Jeffrey Wells's awesome blog Hollywood Elsewhere, you really should read him!) by Gregg Kilday investigating the trend of movies leaving theatres in quick time.
Ever told yourself, I'm going to wait for a couple of weeks, only to find the movie gone from theatres? Apparently, you're not the only one.
According to Kilday, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom spent 12 weeks in the Top 10 back in 1984. This year's awful Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull spent seven weeks, which was considered quite a feat.
So, if you don't get to watch a movie in the first couple of weeks, you may as well wait for DVD.
