Red Cliff Review
Variety has a review for Red Cliff up right now.
Red Cliff, of course, is the most expensive Asian movie ever made, and is directed by the great John Woo.
The poor movie has been beset by many, many problems. They went over budget, they went over schedule, an actor quit (Tony Leung), the leading man quit (Chow Yun-Fat...so sad!), then the actor came back and took over the leading role (Tony Leung), and so on and so forth.
So, it's great to know that the movie is, um, great. The sad thing is that the film is going to be released in two parts everywhere (the second installment is called The Battle of Red Cliff and the two together will total about four-and-a-half hours)...except the US, where it will be released as one, abridged two-and-a-half-hour film (boo!).
I love John Woo and I'm glad he's got his mojo back.
