Oh...My...God!

First Greg Norman, and now this.

Roger Federer lost in his first match at the Toronto Masters to 23-year-old Gilles Simon.

Okay, so technically, it was a second round match because ol' Rog got a first-round bye, and Simon is ranked 22 in the world, and he is coming off a great tournament win at Indianapolis (beating a very good, and very flaky Dmitry Tursunov), and he is French (which means that, by definition, he is a mercurial shot-maker who on his day can give anyone a run for their money).

But still...

In his first match since his debilitating loss in the Wimbledon finals to Rafael Nadal, he loses?! This was the time for him to step back up, to reassert himself, to tell the world that Roger Federer was not done.

This is what champions do. They weather adversity, they deal with the slings and arrows directed at them, they overcome great obstacles, and they show the world what they are made of.

Be careful Rog, be very, very careful.
